Unseen Pain

Unless we mourn, those around us cannot see our grief. Unless we demonstrate sadness in our expression or let out a cry, those around us cannot see our pain. Our emotions manifest our internal feelings. Sometimes we can release our emotions. But other times, we may lack having a safe person to talk to and will refrain from expressing our pain. The problem with this is that as we continue to “hold it in,” we can eventually run out of emotional space. As a result, these repressed emotions can start to push their way out in unhealthy ways. We might begin to feel emotionally overwhelmed, anxious, experience panic attacks, depression, and the list goes on. Managing the stress of everyday life can become challenging and at times unbearable. In order to help ourselves cope, we might begin to engage in unhealthy behaviors such as using substances to numb our feelings, self-harm, overwork, overshop, overeat, and you get the idea.
